What are your thoughts on who should be nominated to the Hall of Fame this year? I'm thinking Wynn Stewart for sure....Paycheck would be nice but I don't see that happening for a few years yet.....
You thoughts??

I believe Gene Watson, Billy Walker, Charlie Walker, Wynn Stewart, Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green, John Hughey and Paul Franklin are all deserving. Of course being a steel player myself explains some of my choices. ;D ;D

Johnny Horton, as always.
Paycheck, certainly; I know there were others we talked about last year but I can't remember them all.

Hank Jr. can't be far off. I would love to see Paycheck. Bobby Bare? Emmylou Harris? Connie Smith? I love Wynn, too, but his relative lack of success may keep him out. Boy, it's a huge drop-off since George, Willie, Hag, and Waylon went in. It won't be long, we'll be talking about George Strait!

Hey Johnny -- welcome! Glad you found your way in!
I took a list at who is actually already in the HoF this morning and I've come to the conclusion they should do another mass induction like they did a few years back when Waylon got in.
I was so surprised when John mentioned Buddy Emmons and Lloyd Green weren't in. Sure 'nough they're not -- not only that but correct me if I'm wrong -- it doesn't look like there's one steel guitar player in the lot -- that's surprising....
I'd also like to add Don Rich to my list......and totally agree with Connie Smith and Jean Shepard

I went back to some posts of mine from early 2001 and I can't find the whole list of nominee's for the extended inductions. However I did find the list included Jean Shepard, Mel Tillis and the Stanley Brothers whom are not in yet.

Maybe they need to up the inductees to 4 a year -- til they get caught up -- once they start considering McGraw and Chesney that should be their cue to pull back on the reins It's a fine line -- you don't want to make it so the inductions are special but there are some really obvious blanks to fill -- musicians and sidemen in particular....

TCB; I whole heartedly agree the number of inductees should be increased.
How many musicians have there been inducted? Without them the song or singer would not have gone anywhere. How about this Idea - when they induct a singer - the musician that stuck with him also be inducted at the sametime. For instance, Billy Byrd is What made the Earnest Tubb sound. Don Rich's Guitar is what made Buck Owens. That is why Buck just isn't interested anymore.
Want more>?
If they want the Country Music Hall OF Fame to be fair and honest, they would adopt this procedure without delay. Otherwise it is just a mockery of what it could be.
And yes there are steelplayers out there that moved around also deserve induction.
Could that be the reason Halls Of Fame are being started all over the country. Like the Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame in St. Louis, Mo

I'd like to add Pappy Daily to the list of 'should be's' He was a strong supporter of up and coming talent and introduced us to some of the best -- George Jones, Willie Nelson and Clay Blaker just for starters -- George Strait had 3 pre MCA singles on Pappy's D Records label -- www.gladmusicco.com/PappyDaily.htm

I think the next up should be Jean Shepard. She was a real pioneer and arguably the most important female artist of the 1950s. After that I think Sonny James, Connie Smith and Jack Greene. While I think Wynn Stewart is also worthy, he is already dead and I'd like to see some of the worthies make it while they are still alive.
I do not agree that there has been fall off in quality in recent years. Last year's inductee (Carl Smith) and this year's (Kristofferson) are at the highest levels of worthiness, although Smith should have gone in 20 years ago
