Technically this has already been released Nov 4/03 --
For over three decades, 30+ albums, and nine GrammyR Awards, Asleep At The Wheel has been championing big band western swing, touring non-stop and earning both critical acclaim and love from fans nationwide. This latest album is a reverent compilation of songs related to Texas and the history and events of The Alamo. It includes faithful reinterpretations like "Remember The Alamo," "Ballad of Davy Crockett," and "Ballad of the Alamo," the latter which appeared in the 1960 John Wayne feature film.
Ray Benson and the band also offer original compositions inspired by events at the Texas landmark and include one song which is a self-admitted left turn from the body of material; "Don't Go There," a tongue-in-cheek song written about Ozzy Osbourne's notorious visit to the Alamo. The message to Ozzy includes the lyrics, "It's a simple Texas Mission, not a pot for you to piss in. It's a symbol of our state, not a place to urinate."

You know, we ought to remind people that a " sign followed by a capital D makes a ;D sign. It looks funny to see a smiley in the middle of articles.

I guess I should disable smiles if I copy an article. I've seen them pop up the in obits section.
I will check out that album at some point during the cold snowy weekend.

Yeah --- they are very very tacky when they're in the obituaries and rememberances....I'll try and make it a point to disable them too.....
Snow! Ugh! I'm soooo ready for spring! Looks like we're headed for another cold snap here....

Picked up this CD yesterday, and enjoyed it. Favorite Asleep at the Wheel CD is their entry in the "Live At Billy Bob's" series. In addition to what you expect, i.e. Take Me Back To Tulsa & Big Balls In Cowtown, there's a first rate cover of Amarillo By Morning, and Ray's voice once again carressing Townes' If I Needed You. Great stuff.

Have to agree there -- I have quite a few AATW discs but the Live from Billy Bob's is my favorite -- captures their live show perfectly!

Just got it in my stack from Texas. Decent but nothing compares to the first Bob Wills tribute for me.

I guess I should disable smiles if I copy an article. I've seen them pop up the in obits section. I will check out that album at some point during the cold snowy weekend. What I do, hon, is just put a space between my quote and the capital D (when I remember) -- either that or go to the trouble of using italics instead of quotes. The space works fine, and I'm used to that, anyway, because you also get smilies when you have punctuation inside of parenthesis... But I don't like to disable smilies, 'cause I'm kinda fond of 'em. ;D ;D

In keeping with the theme:
ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL TO PLAY
ALAMO-THEMED BENEFIT CONCERT
AT THE MAJESTIC THEATRE
MARCH 19, 2004 AT 8:00PM
TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
Nine-time Grammy Award winners Asleep at the Wheel will present an Alamo-themed benefit concert at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas on March 19th, 2004. This “Texas Music Salute to the Alamo” will feature songs from the 2003 album Asleep at the Wheel Remembers the Alamo and will include legendary Texas artists Flaco Jimenez and Rick Trevino. The stirring music will be enhanced with inspiring readings by notable Texans, including Stephen Harrigan, author of the recent best-seller “The Gates of the Alamo.”
Asleep at the Wheel Remembers the Alamo is a 13-song collection of songs associated with the Battle of the Alamo and San Antonio, faithfully rendered by Texas Swing legends Asleep at the Wheel. Titles include “Remember the Alamo,” “San Antonio Rose,” “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” and “Green Leaves of Summer,” among others. Ray Benson, founder of Asleep at the Wheel, was recently named the official “Texas State Musician” of 2004 by the Texas House of Representatives.
100 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales to this event after direct event expenses will benefit the Alamo. Kirk Feldmann, Executive Director of Arts Center Enterprises, Inc., feels that the event is “a wonderful example of the extraordinary way in which artistic expression, through music and words can re-create in a new and exciting manner, many of the seminal moments in San Antonio history.”
The funds raised through the “Texas Music Salute to the Alamo” will be used to help defray the cost of renewing the eighteen year old exhibit in the Alamo Long Barrack Museum. It is anticipated that this $350,000 project will be completed by January 26, 2005, the 100th anniversary of the signing of the legislation granting the Daughters of the Republic of Texas custodianship of the Alamo. This combined effort by Asleep at the Wheel and Arts Center Enterprises, Inc. will be a major boost to the fund raising effort for this project.
Tickets can be purchased at all
